New Faces at ESGI

ESGI is excited to announce the expansion of our core team! Jim Bowler, Jayne Gammons and Matthew Wasko have joined us as we continue to provide critically needed resources for early childhood teachers and intervention specialists around the world.

Jim Bowler, CEO
Jim Bowler has accepted the position of CEO for ESGI.  Jim is a great leader who embodies the culture and values of ESGI, especially on our mission to “Save the Teachers."  Jim started his career as an educator, then was an administrator serving as a high school principal.   He continued his career path in the ed-tech space for over 20 years.  He is an accomplished business leader and former CEO of multiple leading ed-tech companies such as Adaptive Curriculum, Epsilen, and Harcourt Connected Learning/Classroom Connect.  We are excited to have Jim’s leadership and experience as we continue to grow.

Jayne Gammons, Marketing Manager
As the new Marketing Manager for ESGI, Jayne Gammons brings valued experience in both early childhood publishing and elementary education to our rapidly evolving marketing program.  Her initial focus will be working with the "Friends of ESGI" (custom content developers) as they continue to add their assessments to the program and make them available to all ESGI subscribers.

Currently, Jayne is a first grade teacher in the Georgia public education system who has taught almost every elementary grade, as well as preschool.  Although she loved them all, Jayne freely admits that Kindergarten is her favorite!  Jayne also worked as the Senior Managing Editor for The Mailbox for five years where she successfully oversaw the contributions of numerous authors, artists and junior editors to create a world-class magazine.
Jayne also enjoys presenting to early childhood teachers around the country at SDE (Staff Development for Educators) conferences and events. She currently resides in Macon, GA with her husband and son.  She will continue to teach through the end of this school year while she works part-time for ESGI.  Jayne will transition to her full-time position as the new ESGI Marketing Manager in June.

Matt Wasko, Product Manager
Matt Wasko joins ESGI from Denver, Colorado and will be working on the Development Team as the new Product Manager.  His career started in the finance industry in New York and then Chicago, where he became Product Manager for trading software applications.  He most recently worked as Product Manager for a customer experience analytics company in Colorado.

Matt lives with his wife, daughter and two dogs in Highlands Ranch, CO where they enjoy the great outdoors.  Matt is also a runner and triathlete, which is great news for the product development team as they race to the future with cool new features in ESGI!

"We are so excited to have this talented group of people join ESGI as we expand our team of dedicated educators and technologists," said Greg Gorman, Founder of ESGI.  "We are seeing thousands of new teachers using ESGI every month, and Jim, Jayne and Matt will help us continue our high quality support and promote growth so that many more teachers can benefit."

Meet Deedee Wills!

Deedee created Kindergarten CCSS & NEW GUIDED READING Assessments in ESGI to provide an easy and efficient way to track and report student progress, create small groups and develop effective intervention strategies using real-time item analyses.  She taught four years in second grade before she was asked to help launch their Balance Literacy adoption in her district. She served as a Literacy Coach for two years but missed having her own class. So when a kindergarten position opened up, Deedee begged and pleaded... and Mrs. Wills Kindergarten was created. Greg Smedley-Warren

MEET GREG

Howdy!  I am Mr. Greg from The Kindergarten Smorgasboard.   My real name is Greg Smedley-Warren.  I have been teaching for 10 years. Kindergarten is my passion and my calling. I plan to never leave the classroom as the kids are what drive me to continue my growth as a teacher and person.

I received my bachelors degree from Indiana University and received my ELL certification from David Lipscomb University.  At the beginning of my career I spent two summers teaching in Ecuador which only helped to fan the flames of my passion for teaching.   I enjoy blogging and conducting professional development sessions to help teachers around the world make their classrooms a more fun, effective and interactive place to teach.

When I'm not in the classroom, blogging and doing all things teach, I enjoy spending time with my family.  I live in Nashville, Tennessee with my husband (known as The Mister on my blog) and our dogs, Butters and LuLu.

The Joys of Construction Paper

Some may believe the art center to be a luxury in the early learning classroom. Not so! It is a necessity! One art center project that has numerous benefits is an activity I call Construct. Not only is this activity a great way to practice and master the Geometry Standards of the Common Core, it can benefit the child in many other ways.

As children are allowed to create products from part to whole they are allowed the freedom to experiment with the properties of geometry as well as practice analyzing, comparing, creating, and composing. As they do, they are building visual imaging skills that will increase cognition and develop spatial reasoning. Other benefits include: Fostering the ability to take risks, allowing for problem solving, creating opportunity for intrinsic reward, building concentration, fostering creativity, and developing fine motor skills.

The photos are a couple of our construct projects. These projects
are created by the child’s own imagination, looking at illustrations, real objects, studying finished products, watching other student’s creations in development, and/or looking at real photographs. So, what are you waiting for? Get out the construction paper and allow your students to enjoy that luxurious art center!  ________________________________________________________________________
